I was born in Chicago, IL, and grew up in Iowa in a family of five, where I learned the importance of love, faith, and food. I graduated from Scott Community College and the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s in social work, a field that God has truly transformed the way I see and serve others. As a child, I spent countless hours in the kitchen with my grandmothers and mom, learning to cook and helping however my little hands could. No matter the mess-ups or forgotten seasonings, they always smiled, and there was an undeniable warmth in everything they prepared. I’ve carried that spirit with me, aiming to infuse love and care into every dish I make, so that my family, dear friends, and new faces can taste the time and heart behind it. I’m continually inspired by the teachings in Matthew 18:20, where God reminds us that whenever two or more gather in His name, He is there. It’s beautiful to me how food, conversations, and fellowship come together to nourish both the body and the spirit. As a social worker, I’ve learned that my calling is to love and meet people where they are, just as God has loved us. Cleo’s Kitchen, named after my grandfather Cleo Ponton, is my way of honoring his legacy. A veteran, leader, provider, and man of great faith who enjoyed food, family, and togetherness just as I do today. Cleo's Kitchen exists to offer comforting, soulful food and foster a sense of community and fellowship. It’s my humble way of giving back to the people and community that gave me wings to fly, sharing the love, kindness, and warmth I’ve received.
